Due to the courts still being wet and the mist still coming, I'm canceling practice for today. Planning on Thursday 3-5pm. Please email me ([email protected]) your information:
Player's Name Parent/Guardian Name(s) Parent/Guardian Contact Phone Parent/Guardian Email Thanks and see you Thursday! Go WO! Coach Foster Congrats to Sam Duckworth for winning the 4 singles flight Championship. Congrats to Sam Gruenler and Tyler Zoerhof for taking runner-up at 4 doubles. Congrats to Dominic Aquino for taking runner-up at 3rd singles. MONDAY IS THE NIGHT WHERE I NEED EVERYONE THERE...DETAILS BELOW
Here are the details for our Tennis Parent/Player Meetings this Fall (This is the main tennis meeting): When: Monday August 17 from 6:00-7:00 pm Where: LGI Room in the High School North Building Who is expected to be there: All players (Varsity and JV) and at least one parent. What to bring: Insurance Fee of $40 What happens at this meeting: I welcome everyone for another awesome year to come, we go over game-plan for what the Fall will look like, the Varsity / JV teams are introduced, the teams briefly break up to talk about team specific things, and we go home. It'll be pretty brief, but it'll be important for everyone to be there. Meet the Panthers night: When: Tuesday, August 18 after tennis practice. It will finish by 7pm Where: North HS gym Who is expected to be there: All Junior Varsity players (parents don't have to go, but are welcome if they want to hear Rob Renes Speak) Why are there two meetings? Each year the Meet the Panthers night conflicts with the Varsity team's first event, which is in Traverse City. So, this is the only way we can meet in person as a program before the season begins and get everyone on the same page. Tryout update: The players are working very hard. After 3 days of tryouts, we have selected 14 players for varsity. Coach Metz is close to determining an initial lineup for the Junior Varsity. The next step for the Varsity will be to finalize a lineup and head to Traverse City. The next step for Junior Varsity is to set a lineup and prepare for a tournament at Mona Shores next Saturday. Traverse City Varsity Overnight Update: I've changed our hotel to Boarders Inn and Suites 1870 US 31 North Traverse City, MI 49686 | (P) 231-938-1887 | [email protected]. It's just as good of a location and seems to be comparable quality from pictures and reviews, but is far less expensive. Our itinerary for Ann Arbor is unchanged. Thanks for reading along, I'll see you all soon, Coach Schwallier Hey Everyone, Fall tennis is coming. To sign up, simply click the button above. Here's a little info to you going:
Junior Varsity Head Coach: Brian Metz (1st year with the JV, 2nd year on staff) Junior Varsity Assistant Coach: Jeff Van Fossen (1st year) Middle School Head Coaches: Dave Richmond (3rd year) and Julia Foster (1st year)
Also, we have some incredible Tournament/Matchplay things to brag about! Last summer, we made a push to get more West Ottawa tennis players involved in USTA tournaments (a new website was even formed to make it happen). This summer, we are not only competing, but winning tournaments!!! Here's a list of West Ottawa players who have either won or advanced to the finals of USTA tournaments:
Congrats to all of our players doing awesome things this summer! Hey Everyone, thanks for coming out on Tuesday nights and for playing so much. We have a TON of people working hard this summer. This tournament will not earn you USTA points, but it is far less expensive, it is close by, and it will likely draw a slightly different pool of players, so you may see some new faces. I hope you consider checking it out! Hi Parents, here's a little info on the tournament tomorrow:
6:00 am Meet at McDonalds 6:20 am Leave for Riverview Athletic Club (Plainfield avenue) 7:15 am Arrive at Riverview to make a quick decision whether to play in or outside If courts are wet in the morning: - All singles plus 1 and 2 doubles will play at Riverview, and start at 8am - 3 and 4 doubles will play at MVP Rockford and start just after 8am as soon as they arrive. If courts are dry in the morning: - All the 1's and 2's will play at Rockford High School - All the 3's and 4's will play at North Rockford Middle School Additional Notes: - A school has prom, so if we go inside, play will suspend at 5pm and conclude on Monday. - If play concludes on Monday, the most likely start time would be just after noon to accommodate AP testing. - Recall that we have a match against Holland on Monday. If the tournament finishes Monday, we need to be prepared to play twice, or to possibly move the match to Tuesday. Hey Parents,
Here is the information for Saturday’s tournament at Holland High School. 1st, 2nd, 3rd Singles and 1st & 2nd Doubles will be at Holland High (600 VanRaalte Ave). 4th Singles and 3rd & 4th Doubles will be at East K-7 School (373 E 24th St.) Play begins at 8:30am sharp. If they split sets, a 10pt tie break will be played. SCHOOLS: Battle Creek Lakeview, EK, Kalamazoo Central, Lake Odessa Lakewood, Holland, Traverse City Central, West Ottawa, Zeeland East Remember, the Tulip Time Run will be going on, so find an alternate route. I know they end the race at Kollen Park. Looks to be a beautiful day! Hopefully, no blankets needed. Bring chairs. Go WO! Hi Parents/Players, here's varsity info for this week so we are on the same page:
