Keep working hard on the tennis court, in the weight room, and be ready to go when the season begins. -Coach Schwallier Hey Girls,
The season is just under two months away, so keep practicing and working hard. The Conference and Region will be wide open this year. We graduated several talented players, but so did Hudsonville, Rockford, and Grandville. To win the Conference and Regional Titles, our returning players must work harder than theirs. So far I believe we have been doing this. It looks like we've had more players in the clubs this winter than any year I've coached. Many of you are participating in drills, getting private instruction, playing match play on weekends, and are entering into USTA tournaments. I want to get everyone used to posting on the blog so we can communicate better, so please post a comment on this thread. Here's what I want you to include: 1. What you have been doing this Winter to get ready for the season? 2. What team on the schedule do you want to beat the most? 3. Make sure you put your name at the end of the post so we know who's posting! (Parents, feel free to post something too so I know you've seen the schedule/calendar) A schedule, calendar, and tryout information are now posted under "Women's Varsity". We have added a match with Forest Hills Eastern this year to increase the strength of our schedule. Also, this year's West Ottawa Invitational will be St. Joseph, Holland, Holland Christian, and ourselves. St. Joseph has taken the place of Zeeland West. Again, this will give us a more challenging opponent. Other than that, the schedule is very similar to last year. Call or text me anytime with questions about the season, Coach Schwallier Have you ever forgotten the score of a match you played and want to remember it? Maybe you are trying to remember the name of the kid you played, or what flight you played in a particular event. If so, here's a place where you can go: 1. Click Men's Tennis 2. Click History 3. Click 2011 Match and Tournament Results 4. Click on any event from the season and a PDF will open up for you. A few of the Tournaments didn't provide electronic versions of the results, so a few of them have minimal results online, particularly the AAH Invite, where none were given. Most, however, give you complete results. As years go by, it will be fun to be able to see how our boys do from year to year. Note to the Women's team: I'll be able to do the same for you this upcoming spring. We have 8 West Ottawa players competing in this week's USTA tournament. Once again we are lapping the field in terms of how many players our school is sending. A special thanks to the three middle-schooler and elementary kids who came out to compete. You all looked GREAT out there and I appreciate your dedication. Keep working hard everyone, it is paying off!!!
Thanks to all who came out to meet coach Doerrfeld. The last thing he said to me before we took off was to remind you all to give him a call. He wants to work with people who want to work hard. It is absolutely impossible to wear this guy out, so work with him often. If you weren't there and want to hit with him, get his number from me or from someone who came out tonight.
Also, half-way though the evening I was told by our waitress that someone anonymously paid a sizable portion of the bill. Thank you to whoever did this, it made all of us very happy! Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! -Coach Schwallier Thanks to everyone who participated in the Turkey Tournament this weekend. With ten people from West Ottawa involved, we competed with all the top area teams in participation. Congrats to Rilie Du Shane for beating a seeded player in the girls 18's. Also, congrats to Nick Schnobel for winning the boys 14 backdraw. We had people playing a USTA tournament for the very first time, and it's great to see new people getting involved. I played Mixed Doubles with Lynn Bender and advanced to the Semi's, before finally losing to a better team than me. Thanks to all the parents/players who were out there cheering me on; I appreciated it! If you want to see complete results of the tournament, clicking the following link will help you get started: Turkey Tournament.
Thanks to all who competed in the Ramblewood Challenger this weekend. Congrats to Mark VanderStoep for winning the backdraw of the Boy's 14's. Also, congrats to Brandon Ballard, who beat a school's #1 singles player in his first round. Good luck to everyone playing in the Turkey Tournament this weekend. I'll be playing in the Mixed Open Doubles division, so cheer me on if you see me there!
